Journey of Poems

A Guide to Self Acceptance

This book explore the visceral themes of self identity of artist Christina Quarles’ paintings through poems. The poems tell a journey of self identity and accepting one’s bodies, accompanied by images and interesting layouts.

Christina Quarles is a Los Angeles-based artist who trained and worked in the field of graphic design, and later went on to receive her MFA in 2016 from Yale University and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Quarles’ primary subject is the figure. Her paintings are the embodiment of not looking at a body, but being within your own body. This tension can be seen through the dynamic human-like figures that intertwine and morph together in her work.

Christina’s work and the meaning behind it greatly shaped this book, from the content to the final design.
